Welcome to The Clergy: a free newsletter for fans of speculative fiction, poetry, eroticism, religious mysticism, and divinity. As most of you know, I’m Freydís (fray-DEES) Moon, a storyteller, diviner, and book lover. EXODUS 20:3, WITH A VENGEANCE, THREE KINGS, ASTAROTH, and THE GIDEON TESTAMENTS are available now!

Hello! I know it’s been a while. I took a hiatus from social media after ASTAROTH’s release and decided to dial back my presence on Instagram. Given the political climate right now, I wasn’t comfortable engaging as much as I was in a place that leaned so far into what I don’t believe in. But, after receiving some devestating but bitterly expected news this week, I’m taking an even larger step away from social media and fully restructuring my platform.
As many of you know, my paternal grandfather suffered four debilitating strokes in rapid succession last year. He died last March, almost a year ago, after my family moved him into our home to care for him. During that time, I acted as a full-time caretaker, and it looks like me, my mother, and my aunt will be facing a similar situation again. My maternal grandmother and last living grandparent was recently diagnosed with a cognitive disease that will slowly begin to steal her memory, impact her livability, and deteriorate her wellness. We’ve seen the signs, and have been preparing for what this may mean for us, but no one is ever truly ready to get bad news, I’m afraid. As I slip back into a caretaking role, I will have to focus on my contractual obligations—IP projects, ghostwriting, and traditional editing. Which means I won’t be available on social media. While I might post an update here or there, or schedule out some promotional material, I’m stepping away to focus solely on my grandmother. Losing my grandpa last year made me realize how little time we have, how little control we have, and I don’t want to squander any time I might have to listen to her stories, share a cup of tea with her, or simply exist with her while the television is on, or while we’re cooking, or as I work on a client’s manuscript.
So, my gentle farewell is to Instagram. I will no longer be accessible there.
But that does not mean I’m leaving. Don’t get too excited, Elle and crew. I still have more stories to sling.
What’s next, then? Well, what’s next is this—
My Vampiric Rockstar Dark Romance NEVER SAY DIE will be published exclusively on Substack under my paid tier! Yes, you heard me. I’m posting every single chapter for NSD right here. If you want easy access to this book, my next Christmas novella, and a full-length Contemporary Dark Romance coming next year then subscribe to The Summoning, because that’s where everythng will be ♡ I’m scheduling out NEVER SAY DIE and the following books to be sent every two or three weeks. Once NSD is finished, I’ll be looking into publication options, but right now, I just don’t have time to wranlge Atticus, format everything, hire an illustrator, yada yada. I need to prioritize my time, limit my online availability, and focus on what matters. Once again, that’s my family.
I’m still working on my Dark Academia (which is a hell of a book to write and the longest thing I’ve ever written) but it’s going to be put on indefinite hold until I find a way to balance time with my grandma, caretaking, editorial/drafting work, and general life stuff! Thank you, thank you, thank you for your love, patience, and support. As always, the best way to support me if to buy my books for yourself or a friend, request my catalog at your local library, and ask your local bookstore to carry my work ♡
Oh, and a tiny, itty bitty, smallish note. . . Okay, just kidding, it’s not tiny. WITH A VENGEANCE audiobook is being recorded right meow! And the ASTAROTH audiobook will begin recording in March!
But for real, I love you all. To my devoted readers, you’ve kept me writing, you’ve kept my brand and books alive, you’ve kept me smiling, kept me afloat, kept Indiana and Coconut fed, kept me in my perfect studio.
To everyone who wished I’d disappear. . . Honestly? At this point? Just choke on me.
See you at The Summoning, cult members. Church is back in session soon.
I hope everything goes well for you and your family! ♡
Honestly, with the way things are, I see it as a sort of renaissance where we ditch social media and return to blogging and lurking through websites. I've been loving Substack so far! This space has been so nice and intimate, away from companies pushing to sell products and instead it's a community of creatives coming together ♡ The engagement seems more authentic as well and not an algorithm pushing it out, which is definitely a nice change of pace.
